China unveiled a global AI education service platform on Tuesday during the 2026 World Digital Education Conference in Hangzhou, marking a new step in its efforts to expand international access to digital learning and deepen the integration of artificial intelligence in education.
The initiative is part of an upgraded version of the Smart Education of China platform, which is now available in approximately 220 countries and regions. The enhanced platform introduces a range of new international-oriented features, including a lifelong learning hub designed to support continuous education across age groups, as well as a Chinese language learning community aimed at fostering cross-cultural exchange.
Running from May 11 to 13, the conference also featured the release of a report detailing China’s latest policy developments and innovative practices in smart education. The report highlights the country’s ongoing push to leverage digital technologies and AI to modernize education systems and improve accessibility.
In parallel, an AI education initiative was announced, emphasizing the role of artificial intelligence in promoting holistic and sustainable human development. The initiative calls for greater global collaboration to harness AI in education while addressing disparities in digital access. It also stresses the importance of using smart education platforms to share high-quality resources and digital tools, with the goal of narrowing the global digital divide.
The launch reflects China’s broader ambition to position AI-powered education as a key driver of inclusive growth, while strengthening international cooperation in the digital learning landscape.
