Airbnb is broadening its ambitions beyond short-term rentals, unveiling a sweeping set of new features that aim to transform its platform into a comprehensive travel and lifestyle hub. The company announced that a major update, expected to roll out this winter, will introduce services ranging from car rentals and grocery delivery to airport pickups and luggage storage, all integrated directly within the Airbnb app.

The move reflects a strategic shift as Airbnb seeks to capture more of the end-to-end travel experience. Under the new update, users will be able to arrange for groceries to be delivered to their accommodation ahead of arrival, book private transportation from airports, and secure car rentals without leaving the platform. These additions are designed to streamline travel logistics and reduce reliance on multiple third-party apps.

Airbnb is also significantly expanding its “Experiences” offering, with more than 3,000 landmark-based activities spanning iconic destinations such as the Tower of London, Tokyo Skytree, and the Taj Mahal. The company is deepening its focus on local and cultural immersion, allowing users to connect with local food experts and participate in curated culinary events. Through partnerships with organizations such as Chef’s Table and Grand Central Market, travelers can book high-end dining experiences, including exclusive multi-course meals with renowned chefs like Gianfranco Pascucci of the Michelin-starred Pascucci al Porticciolo in Rome.

In parallel, Airbnb is introducing a broader selection of boutique and independent hotels, expanding its inventory in 20 major global cities including New York, Paris, London, Madrid, Rome, and Singapore. The company said additional cities will be added over time, signaling a continued push into the traditional hospitality sector while maintaining its distinct brand identity.

Artificial intelligence will play a central role in the upgraded platform. New AI-powered tools will help users identify the most suitable accommodations by summarizing reviews, comparing listings, and generating personalized travel itineraries. The app will also incorporate social features, enabling users to connect with friends and family, view their past and upcoming trips, and exchange recommendations directly within the platform.

Customer support is also set for an overhaul, with Airbnb introducing AI-driven assistance capable of handling inquiries more efficiently, including a forthcoming voice-based support option.

Brian Chesky, co-founder and CEO of Airbnb, said the changes reflect a broader vision for travel. He emphasized that travel should go beyond convenience, offering meaningful and transformative experiences. According to Chesky, the new features aim to help users explore more deeply, learn from their journeys, and return home changed.

The rollout is scheduled for the winter season, with Airbnb encouraging users to stay tuned for updates as the new features become available globally.
